Sweet Potato Casserole With Pecan Crumble RecipeAfter Butterball sets you on the right track with your turkey, you can turn your attention to making this absolutely incredible Thanksgiving side dish.
Classic Sweet Potato Casserole

I just started making this sweet potato casserole with pecan brown sugar topping a couple years ago.

My mom used to make a sweet potato dish that has marshmallows on top, but I’m not a huge fan of this method. I wanted to come up with a recipe that was still super sweet, but sans the marshmallows. What I came up with is an absolutely dreamy sweet potato casserole with an amazing, crunchy topping that my family just can’t get enough of!

Sweet Potato Casserole with Butter Pecan Crumble ToppingI also love this Thanksgiving side dish because it’s so simple to make. You could cook and mash your own sweet potatoes, but I really like using canned sweet potatoes in this dish because of the flavor and texture they bring.

So, is my sweet potato casserole with pecan brown sugar topping a dessert or a side dish?

The jury is out. Honestly, it’s so sweet that it should easily fall into the classification of dessert, but we never wait until after our meal to eat it.

Here’s a fun video tutorial to show you how to prepare this yummy dish!

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together mashed sweet potatoes (you can mash them with a fork), 1/2 cup butter, evaporated milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and eggs. Spread combined sweet potato mixture into the baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and flour. Cut in 1/3 cup butter until mixture is crumbly, then stir in pecans. Sprinkle brown sugar pecan mixture over the sweet potatoes.
  4. Bake for 25 minutes, or until golden brown.

This really is a fabulous casserole, and the only one in existence that Marlboro Man, our cowboys, and my children will eat.
